Acts and Functions of the Intellect from the Perspective of the Quran
The workings of the intellect according to the Quran are as follows:the first is remembrance and this is the opposite of forgetfulness. The second is thinking which involves the general activities of the intellect. The third is jurisprudence which is understanding and knowledge based on logical reasoning. The fourth is understanding and this involves the knowledge and awareness which comes from within. The fifth is wisdom and this is the faculty of understanding and knowledge. The sixth is insight and this is knowledge, understanding, and awareness. Each of the terms which are used in the Quran for the workings of the mind and the intellect go back to one of these six facets of knowledge and they are used in concordance with the proper meaning which the verse in question is wishing to convey.
